5. Why We Process Personal Data
5.1 To provide and operate the Service — including account creation, profile display, messaging, media exchange, identity-related flows, feature access, service functionality, and service maintenance.
5.2 To verify users and maintain trust and safety — including age verification, identity verification, liveness checks, prevention of fake accounts, prevention of impersonation, fraud detection, abuse detection, illegal-content detection, account integrity, and enforcement of our policies.
5.3 To moderate content and conduct — including reviewing, detecting, classifying, restricting, or removing content or behaviour that may be harmful, illegal, deceptive, or in breach of our Terms or Community Guidelines.
5.4 To improve security and reliability — including logging, monitoring, incident response, abuse prevention, technical troubleshooting, debugging, performance optimisation, and fraud prevention.
5.5 To communicate with you — including service messages, support responses, legal notices, safety notices, policy updates, verification outcomes, and operational communications.
5.6 To comply with legal obligations and protect rights — including responding to lawful requests, complying with applicable law, defending claims, preserving evidence, and protecting users, the Company, and third parties.
5.7 To develop, improve, and administer the Service — including analytics, feature improvement, bug fixing, operational planning, and service administration.
Under India’s current data protection framework, consent, notice, withdrawal, and purpose limitation are important principles, and your in-app consent flows should be consistent with this policy.
6. Legal Basis / Grounds for Processing
To the extent applicable under relevant law, we process personal data based on one or more of the following grounds: (a) your consent, including permissions and choices you provide within the Service or on your device; (b) the necessity of processing to provide the Service requested by you; (c) compliance with legal obligations; and (d) legitimate operational, safety, fraud-prevention, and rights-protection needs, to the extent recognized by applicable law.
Where consent is relied upon, you may withdraw consent, though withdrawal may affect your ability to use some or all parts of the Service.
7. Permissions
Depending on your device and how you use the Service, we may request access to: (a) camera and photo library, for profile photos, attachments, or uploads; (b) microphone, for voice messages; (c) notifications, for service-related alerts and message notifications; (d) location, for location-based features; and (e) device and app permissions necessary for uploads, messaging, and service integrity.
You may manage permissions through your device settings, but disabling permissions may limit app functionality.
8. Sharing of Personal Data
8.1 Service Providers and Infrastructure Partners — This may include service providers that support chat, channels, attachments, and voice messages; identity verification; content moderation; app delivery; notifications; hosting; analytics; and security. Based on the current product information you provided, this may include providers and systems such as Stream, DeepVue, Expo / EAS, and Apple APNs, as well as moderation and infrastructure tools used to support the Service.
8.2 Authorities and Legal Recipients — We may disclose personal data to law enforcement agencies, regulators, courts, government authorities, or other legally authorized recipients where required by law, legal process, or in good-faith response to safety, fraud, abuse, or rights-protection needs.
8.3 Corporate Transactions — We may disclose or transfer personal data in connection with a merger, acquisition, restructuring, financing, sale of assets, insolvency event, or similar corporate transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards and legal requirements.
8.4 Protection of Rights and Safety — We may disclose personal data where reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property, safety, users, systems, business, or reputation of the Company or third parties.
We do not sell personal data in the ordinary commercial sense based on the product information currently provided to us.
9. Location Data
If you grant location permissions, we may process coarse location and precise location depending on your device settings and the features you use. Location data may be used to support location-related app functionality, safety, service personalisation, fraud detection, or operational needs. Location information may be inaccurate, delayed, or unavailable and should not be relied on for emergency or safety-critical purposes.
10. Government ID and Verification Data
Where identity verification is used, we may collect and process government ID information and related verification materials solely for purposes such as age verification, identity verification, trust and safety, fraud prevention, legal compliance, and dispute handling. Government ID information is not displayed to other users.
Because government ID information is highly sensitive in practice, access should be strictly limited operationally and handled consistently with platform and data minimization expectations. Google Play treats government identification information as sensitive data and restricts how it can be handled and disclosed.
11. Content Moderation and Automated Review
We may use automated tools, manual review, or both to identify, review, classify, restrict, or remove content and conduct that may violate law, our Terms, or our Community Guidelines. This may include analysis of uploaded media, metadata, reports, account behaviour, and communication patterns for safety, abuse prevention, and legal compliance purposes. Automated systems may not always be perfect, and we may supplement them with human review.
12. Data Retention
We retain personal data for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.
12.1 Active Accounts — We generally retain account and profile data while your account remains active.
12.2 User-Requested Deletion — If you request account deletion, your account may remain in a soft-deleted state for up to 30 days so that you may restore it if you change your mind.
12.3 Permanent Deletion — If you do not restore your account within 30 days, we may permanently delete or irreversibly de-identify relevant personal data, subject to legal, safety, technical, fraud-prevention, and dispute-related retention needs.
12.4 Extended Retention — We may retain certain categories of data for longer where necessary, including moderation records, verification logs, report histories, legal compliance records, fraud indicators, technical logs, backup records, and evidence relevant to investigations or claims.
13. Security
We use reasonable technical, organizational, and operational measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorized access, misuse, loss, destruction, or alteration. However, no system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, and you use the Service at your own risk. You are also responsible for maintaining the security of your device, SIM, OTPs, and account credentials.
14. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on applicable law and how the Service is implemented, you may have rights relating to your personal data, including the ability to: (a) access or review certain profile information; (b) correct or update certain data; (c) request deletion of your account; (d) withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; (e) raise grievances or complaints.
India’s current data protection framework contemplates rights around access to information, correction, erasure, grievance redressal, and withdrawal of consent, subject to legal conditions and operational realities.
To exercise available rights or raise a request, please contact the Grievance Officer using the details above.
15. Withdrawal of Consent
Where you have provided consent for processing, you may withdraw such consent by changing settings, disabling permissions, deleting your account, or contacting us where appropriate. Withdrawal of consent does not affect processing already carried out prior to withdrawal and may limit your ability to use some or all features of the Service.
16. Children
The Service is intended only for persons 18 years and older. We do not knowingly permit minors to use the Service. If we become aware that a minor’s data has been collected in connection with the Service, we may suspend the account, investigate, and delete the data or take other appropriate steps, subject to legal and safety requirements.
17. Cross-Border Processing
Some service providers or technical systems used to support the Service may process or store data outside your local state or region, and in some cases outside India, subject to applicable law, contractual protections, and operational requirements. If such processing occurs, we will seek to ensure appropriate protection consistent with applicable requirements.
18. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updated versions may be posted in the app, website, or otherwise communicated electronically. Continued use of the Service after the updated Privacy Policy becomes effective may constitute acceptance to the extent permitted by law.
